In 2007, the City of Bristol commissioned a collaborative team of the YUDW with Economic Development firm Capstan Group to develop an in-depth, community-based study of the West End. The study was to develop a framework for the city to better understanding the needs of this rapidly changing neighborhood, which was perceived to be in decline. Over the course of a year, the team held a series of public meetings with community leaders, neighborhood residents, and city officials, and established a set of concrete goals and an action plan to revitalize and improve the neighborhood in the coming years. The plan included improvements both to existing city based programs, and specific proposals for opportunity sites in the neighborhood.
